2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE450 Cabriolet: Top-Down No Matter The Temp

Put that top down, you'll be fine.
2024 mercedes-benz cle450 cabriolet review

Let’s talk about why Mercedes remains unbeaten when it comes to one of my favorite driving activities: cold weather convertible-ing.

This week I’ve been enjoying the hell out of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE450 Cabriolet, in some absolutely glorious fall weather. With temps from the high 30s to the mid-50s, many drivers would be tempted to keep the triple-layer “acoustic” fabric soft top shut, but they’d be fools, here’s why.

The CLE 450 Cab comes with a triple threat of comfort features to keep drivers snug, even with the roof open (even very tall drivers like my 6-foot-5-inch self).

First there are the seats: In addition to looking great in this Power Red-hued leather, they feature Mercedes’ long-running Airscarf system. The vent in the top of the back bolster pumps out warming air around the neck and makes you feel like your Mercedes is giving you a hug.

The seats are also heated so your butt gets a hug, too… that sounds weird but you know what I mean.

Another simple but effective Mercedes convertible comfort system is called Aircap. Press this button in the center console and a wind deflector pops up from the top of the windshield frame, while a draft stop screen rises up between the rear head restraints. For humongous people like me, the system keeps wind from spilling over the windshield onto my forehead, and for back seat passengers (like my two kids), there’s a big reduction of draftiness.

Honestly, with Aircap and Airscarf on AND the side windows raised old-dude style, you basically get no cold air in the cabin at all. With this kind of magic from Mercedes, who would ever get the coupe?

Watch the video above to see both see Airscarf and Aircap in action, and don’t be shy about smashing those like and subscribe buttons if you’re into the idea of watching more CarsFancy video reviews. The team and I look forward to talking about many more vehicles in the near future.

Do you love driving with the top down in cold weather – have I convinced you – or are you still a skeptic? Let me know which way your hair is blowing in the comments.
